Saudi Arabia Allergen Disclosure Requirements for Menus
SFDA allergen disclosure rules for restaurant menus in Saudi Arabia. Required allergens, display format, and digital menu compliance.
## SFDA Allergen Requirements
The Saudi Food and Drug Authority requires food establishments to declare allergens present in menu items. This aligns with Codex Alimentarius standards and covers:
1. **Cereals containing gluten** (wheat, rye, barley, oats)
2. **Crustaceans** (shrimp, crab, lobster)
3. **Eggs**
4. **Fish**
5. **Peanuts**
6. **Soybeans**
7. **Milk and dairy**
8. **Tree nuts** (almonds, cashews, walnuts, pistachios)
9. **Sesame seeds**
10. **Sulfites** (above 10 mg/kg)
## Display Requirements
- Allergens must be clearly identified on the menu
- Staff must be trained to answer allergen questions
- Cross-contamination risks should be noted
## How Qaima Handles Allergens
Qaima's item editor includes a dedicated allergen field with standardized tags. When a diner views the menu, allergen icons appear next to each item, and a filterable view can hide items containing specific allergens.
