Arabic Language Requirements for Saudi Restaurant Menus

Saudi Arabia requires Arabic as the primary language on all restaurant menus. Legal basis, enforcement, and compliance guide.

## Legal Basis The Saudi Consumer Protection Law and SFDA regulations mandate that Arabic is the **primary language** on all consumer-facing materials in the Kingdom. For restaurant menus, this means: - All item names must appear in Arabic - All descriptions must be in Arabic - Allergen and nutritional information must be in Arabic - English (or other languages) may be added as secondary text - Arabic text must be **equal or larger** in prominence ## Enforcement The Ministry of Commerce and SFDA conduct regular inspections. Municipal authorities also check during routine food safety inspections. Non-compliance can result in fines and, in extreme cases, temporary closure orders. ## Qaima's Arabic-First Approach Qaima was built in the Gulf for Gulf restaurants. The platform treats Arabic as the primary language, not an afterthought translation. Menu items are entered in Arabic first, with English as the secondary field. The display automatically prioritizes Arabic text in the Saudi locale.
