Qatar Tax-Free Menu Pricing and Service Charges
Qatar has no VAT — menu pricing rules, service charge transparency, and how to display prices correctly on restaurant menus.
## Qatar: No VAT
Like Kuwait, Qatar has not yet implemented VAT despite being a signatory to the GCC Unified VAT Agreement.
### Current Pricing Rules
- Prices must be displayed in Qatari Riyal (QAR)
- All displayed prices must be final
- Service charges must be disclosed upfront if applied
- Tourism levies on hotels do not typically apply to standalone restaurants
### Service Charge Transparency
Many Qatar restaurants add a 10-15% service charge. This must be clearly communicated to diners before ordering — either on the menu or at the entrance.
### Preparing for Future VAT
Qatar may implement VAT in the future. Restaurants should use pricing systems that can accommodate tax adjustments.
## How Qaima Helps
Qaima's pricing system supports service charge display and can toggle between tax-inclusive and tax-exclusive modes for when Qatar implements VAT.
